Question by Rob S: Best way to recognize a Russian military Makarov PM pistol?
Thinking of buying one, and I don’t want one someone passed off with the military grips on a East German one. I want the authentic Russian model.

You should do a bit more research on Makarovs, because East German models are often considered more desirable or better made than Russian models and often get higher prices. Now, the Bulgarian models are less, so you do have a good point about knowing which is which. I purchased a “Bulgarian” Makarov from a wholesaler years ago and it turns out it is actually Russian, as it bears the Izhevsk factory code.
The Mak is a great pistol and I love the ones I have. Be very careful to know what is actually a PM or Makarov and the host of other, less desirable pistols that use the 9×18 Makarov caliber and are often sold by unscrupulous dealers as “Makarovs”.
Here’s a couple of links that you should study thoroughly…

Yeah, I agree with the first guy. The EG made are more desirable.
I have the IMEZ IJ-70 Russian made in 9×18. Paid $ 149 new for it at a gun show about 6-7 years ago. I used it as a carry gun for a couple years. Fired maybe 75 rounds through it.
I'm tempted to put it up for sale?
