Question by ejirl84: Can I learn Russian without learning their cyrillic alphabet?
Can Russian be written using English characters? I tried learning how to speak/write Russian for a while and the characters were giving me a hard time. I mean I see Russian names and stuff on TV and they are not using those characters. So maybe I could learn it without using them?

It can be written in English characters, but in order to write it correctly you have to know how the word is written in Cyrillic Russian!
But hey, it cant be that hard to learn Cyrillic, put some effort in it and you will know Russian and it is worth it, believe me!!!
Good luck!

The answer is "no" – strange question really, like,
"Can I learn Italian without learning Italian alphabet" or
"Can I learn Japanese without learning Japanese characters"

I have been learning russian for about 4 years and at first you may find it hard and give up. I would recommend for you to learn it properly and it wont come to you all at once after all its the 3rd hardest language to learn. You can write the pronunciation in english but you will gain anything from doing this.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to read almost anything written in Russian (except maybe messages in chats) if you don't know the cyrillic alphabet. Besides, you won't be able to use dictionaries

Yes……but you might want to learn Cyrillic if your typing to a Russian or your in Russia, it's not that hard to learn actually, I taught myself it only took me 10 hours.

Very bad idea. You won't be able to travel in Russia, where Russian is mostly spoken. Give a try in learning the alphabet, it'll be fruitful and will help you learn the language, which demands also some effort of will.
