Question by DarkDruidess: Can I use self rising flour in a recipe for pierogi or will it affect the taste and or consistancy?

The only difference between self-rising and all-purpose flour is that self-rising contaings baking soda, baking powder, and salt. If your recipe calls for those 3 ingredients in addition to flour then it will turn out fine. Self-rising flour tends to make the bread part of the dish fluffy. For perogies, I probably wouldn’t recommend it.

Hi Dark Druidess, You would be better to use plain flour. Although it would be possible, I wouldn't use self raising flour.I hope this helps, all the best.Rab

Not a good idea – will make your dumplings more like bread than noodles.

I, personally, only use all purpose flour when making perogies.
