Question by James D: Describe key cultural differences between Russia and the U.S and how the differences impact your communication?
I am planning on traveling to Russia and possibly working there. I need as much imput between our two cultures and how it will impact my communications.

In Russia people generally smile when they think something is funny or they are really glad to see you. Most people (except for few professionals who have to do that) don’t smile just to be polite, so there are few artificial smiles in Russia. At the same time people in Russia generally have a good sense of humor but can be a little too sarcastic at times. Also, there is relatively little “small talk” in Russia. For example, if you say “how are you doing” you might get a detailed response because people in Russia do not generally ask this question unless they actually want to know.
