Did Grigory Rasputin have a relationship with Alexandra Romanov?

Question by : Did Rasputin really have a relationship with Alexandra Romanov?
Or was it just the rumor of the time?

I assume you mean a sexual one, if so the short answer is no. Alexandra was very much the Czarina and Rasputin was very much a peasant, and she was very aware of her position but she really believed Rasputin was a holy man who had a powerful gift for healing, and she would indulge anyone who could bring her precious only son relief and Alexei became much better when Rasputin was around. It’s pretty much a sure bet the neither the Czar or the Czarina was aware of the malicious rumors. Try the book Nicholas and Alexandra for a biography

Gossip was a huge pastime at the court, and a means of discrediting people or turning public opinion against them. It’s absolutely not true that Alexandra had an affair with Rasputin. She was extremely devoted to her husband and children. In addition, most of the accusations leveled at Rasputin were untrue. He was hated by much of the aristocracy for advocating equal rights for the oppressed Jews who were confined to a ghetto and denied the right to an education, most occupations, and much else. The artistocracy, like Nicholas II, were very anti-Semitic. In fact the Tsar, like those before him, encouraged the ‘pogroms’ – regular raids on Jewish villages, which would be demolished while its people were tortured and slaughtered senselessly. Think about it: the tsar had the blood of many innocents on his hands; Rasputin never killed nor harmed a soul in his life.
