Did Russia “introduce” America to the Matryoshka dolls?

Question by 0_0: Did Russia bring/”introduce” America to the nesting/Matryoshka/Babushka dolls?
Was Russia the first inventors of these dolls? Were they the ones who brought them to America? Did RUSSIAN IMMIGRANTS bring the nesting dolls to America?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matryoshka_doll (even though it says “Russian nesting doll”, I just need to be sure.

Oh and if you know anything about Russia bringing any part of their culture that we’ve adapted, please tell me, I’ve been searching for almost an hour and I can’t find anything. Even some links would really helpp. Thanks(:

yes, russians were the first to ‘invent’ these dolls. The concept was developed first in japan though and was influenced or inspired by modernism. heres a website for some research 🙂

Matryoshka dolls are made everywhere. Even in New Zealand.

Contrary to the popular belief that "Matryoshka" is the traditional Russian doll, it became known to Russians only in the 19th century, when it was developed after the Indian/Chineese toy Dahrooma, which was a figure of a moustached man, which contained some smaller token inside. Russians changed it so it appear like a girl and nest another toy of the same pattern inside.
