Question by Dylan: Was the USSR solely the Soviet Union (Russia) or did it include the other Warsaw Pact nations?
I’m writing a DBQ and it’d be best if I use “USSR” correctly.

The USSR was a part of the Warsaw Pact. Countries like Poland, East Germany, Albania, etc…were not part of the USSR

USSR stood for Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. it did include Czechoslovakia, Poland, east Germany, Romania, Lithuania, Afghanistan(which is why the Taliban use American munitions, we gave em to them to fight the Russians)

The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and included several of those nations surrounding Russia. Not the Warsaw Pact nations though.

USSR = Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
It included Russia, Belorussia, Ukrainia, Georgia, and some 11 other Soviet Socialist Republics. Here's the list:

Poland, Romainia, East Germany and other communist "client" states were NOT part of the USSR, but were part of the "Eastern" bloc, sometimes called the Warsaw Pact.

The USSR was not just Russia. It was a union of 15 sovereign (in theory) republics, of which Russia was the largest.

In 1922 the Various Soviet Republics signed the treaty creating the USSR – so for dates before 1922 use Russia, for dates afterwards use USSR or Soviet Union
The Warsaw pact countries Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria USSR, East Germany, Albania left in 1961) and Romania were nominally independant countries that were under Soviet Influence, and not (again in theory – and partially in practice) Soviet control.
