First off – if it comes in a plastic bottle, stay away! Second, what do you mean by "good"? to some people, Smirnoff or Seagrams are good. Others want a little better taste, so they get Absolut, Finlandia, or Stolichnaya. Some people want a little better, so they get Grey Goose or Belvedere.
My favorite = Zubrowka (Bison Grass vodka). It's not one of your "elite" vodkas, but it's GOOD. It has kind of a vanilla-coconut-almond flavor, so you have to be careful when mixing it.

Well I think the better vodka you get, the less burning & you wont have a bad A** hang over the next day. The cheapest you get, the more burning & hang over you'll get the next day. I like Smirnoff & Finlandia.

About $ 30…

Anything distilled 3 or more times you can count on being of better quality. Stay away from Korski, 5 oclock, Hawkeye. Whoever made the comment about the burn is absolutely right: any vodka that burns is most def cheap!
My favorite affordable vodka is Phillips. It's price is comparable with the cheap-o brands, however it is distilled 3 times so it is better quality.

you come to my school and see what everyone is drinking – then you know its bad – anything like vlad or flavored like cherry is pretty awful

There is a world of difference between good and bad vodka. Good vodka, brands like Shakers, Reyka, Charbay to name a few, use quality ingredients and water treatment methods to make the vodka enjoyable.
Lesser quality vodkas will use sub-par ingredients and cheap water, which in turn will have a negative impact on the final product. Also, distillation is a common misconception. Just because a vodka says its been distilled 4,5 even 9 times doesn't make it the best out there. After the 3rd or 4th distillation, all you are doing is distilling water, its pointless. Its more for marketing.
To make a dirty vodka martini, pour your favorite vodka into a martini glass ice cold. Pour in a liberal amount of olive juice.

Good quality will be smoother in taste and will give less of a hangover the next day.
To make a dirty martini do this:
Fill a shaker full of ice.
Pour a small amount of virmouth in the shaker and give it a few shakes and then pour out the virmouth
Add 6oz vodka and shake really well
Place 2 olives in a martini glass and add some of the juice from the jar
Pour in the strained vodka into the glass
YUM!
