do I need a special license for purchasing a ak74, not ak 47 in nevada?

Question by pelavacas: do I need a special license for purchasing a ak74, not ak 47 in nevada?
I own a shotgun, rifle, and glock 17 and I have a super clean record, but do I need a special permit or license to purchase a ak-74? Not the ak-47, but the ak-74 here in las vegas nevada? I heard of class 3 license, but im unsure

A true AK74 is a full automatic military “Assault Weapon”. If you can find a transferable one you would need to pay the BATFE $ 200 for the tax stamp to own it.

However, I suspect you actually mean a semi automatic version of the AK74 – you do not need any special license or tax stamp to own one of these rifles. They are regulated like all other rifles in the US. Some states will vary on this but Nevada is not one of those.

No. But are you thinking of your semi-auto sporter or full auto. You only need a class 3 to sell and transfer automatics as a buisness. Not to buy or own for private sale. This issue has been covered here literally thousands of times so I’m sure you can find the info with a simple search.

As previously stated for the full auto version you need the tax stamp. For the civilian semi auto no further rules apply then a regular rifle.

AK74 & AK47 are in exactly the same boat. If you purchase and commercial semi-auto versions then it is treated like any other long gun (no license, permit, etc.). You just have to be 18 and pass a background check. Of course federal law says that the have to be 922(r) compliant, but anything legally sold in the US will be. In fact one of the best commercial AK builders in the country is based in Las Vegas: http://www.arsenalinc.com/usa/.

Automatic AK versions come under federal laws that make it expensive and more difficult, but Las Vegas or Nevada doesn’t add any additional laws on top of federal laws.
