Do you think Russia has Europe over the gas and oil?

Question by Real Grit: Do you think Russia has Europe over the barrels over nat gas and oil?
Especially if Russia controls oil transit pipeline in Georgia. USA can’t even make up its mind to look for oil and gas. It looks like the 21st century belongs to Russia. What do you think?
If Russia shuts off nat gas in the winter, Europe will be a very cold place. Who needs who more?

No they do not and here is why. Russia while being one of the major supplier of oil is NOT the only one. the EU could easily shift its focus into middle;e eastern oil and Russia would be the biggest loser in that deal. It doesn’t serve any purpose to have a product that no one wants.
Plus the EU is now more united than ever and political sanctioned with Russia could really hurt the country. Russia needs the EU more than the EU needs Russia. Russia has grown into a huge financial and economical bubble which could easily implode if it does not have the outlet for it.

well, why aren't you worried about OPEC stopping all the supplies to the US? it would affect the US well greatly, would it not? 🙂

and seriously, europe buys supplies from russia for over than 50 years and not once the supplies were disturbed regardless of how intense cold war were getting. the worries you demonstrate are no more than an opinion of some "expert" you heard.

i'd be more interested in what lobby company payed to that expert to speak out his opinions.

    good luck.

I don't think so. Russia might be making a come back, but they just wanted to flex they're muscle. I know this swift invasion of Georgia might make it appear that they are still on top, but Georgia was a very small nation which was right next door. Russia was basically being a bully…and would think twice before picking on someone they're own size. Not to mention, it was genocide, no nation who kills civilians is going to get any support in the world. The world fact book states that the USA is still very far ahead of Russia in regards to military spending, technology and forces.

    Absolutely.

Even if they didn't the Europeans wouldn't do anything.

Europe doesn't have any fighting spirit left in it.

Russian may indeed like to have the kind of Empire that the Ottomans had in Europe, (or like criminal underworld gangs today) with tribute being extracted from its former satellites and beyond, using oil (Lukoil is Putin's favored gas company). As we see now, military force is another form of coercion.
