Question by milauwio: Does Russia need a navy at all ? Wil she ever be able to pick up the pace in weapon modernisation ?
Observing that country’s strategic position and coasts, there wasn’t , in any time of her history, a danger of the seaborne invasion. She is by nature a pure land force and if she only redirects her money from navy into land forces that could have some effect on the eternal problem of modernising her forces.
Through history she was a multi religious and national empire and as always is the case with those states, stability and peace are no.1 agenda. They need grand state and/or religious aparatus to control their subjects and that always hinders innovative spirit and tehnological progress. Look at UK, USA , Germany. They are a innovative countries that haven’t experienced the problems of Russia. Protestant countries are the cradle of capitalism and western technology after all.
Just wondering, not advocating any war of any sort.

The nation that controls the seas controls the world.
I recall reading that China is fully capable of lobbing a few tactical nuclear warheads and completely destroying the multibillion dollar crown jewels of the U.S. armed forces… her aircraft carriers.
Tanks, aircraft carriers… they're all going the way of the battleship. Obsolete.
