Does Valery Gergiev really conduct with a toothpick?

Question by Picardy Bird: Does Gergiev really conduct with a toothpick sometimes?
A friend told me this, and I’m having difficulty believing it. I also can’t find any evidence of it online. Does anyone have a link to a picture of this? Or a video? Because I’d love to see it.

Yes, he most certainly does. Sometimes he doesn’t use a baton at all. Here’s the toothpick proof:

    Gergiev isn’t a conductor; he’s a Russian who tries too hard to show how Russian he is, and who seems to shave with a toothpick.

    (Now expecting howls of protest!).
