Try and get your splits , this will help with the flexibility aspect of the Russian.
Do you have a trampoline? If so, practicing Russians on them is such a good way on getting feel of it. I usually do a few on the tramp before I practice them on the ground, you have more time in the air so you can get the full split.
If you look at my pic <===== Thats taken from me just going straight from the ground, if I do it off the tramp my legs are kind of like hyper extended-their beyond the splits position.
Apart from that, practise also helps a heap too!
Hope this helps 🙂

My advice is to practice right, left, and middle splits
Stretch daily
Work on high kicks
Focus on executing the correct form of the leap first, then move on to making it higher
I always find that the entry to the leap can really change the actual leap
Be sure to bend your knees a lot before, and punch off your toes to get maximum height
Point your toes and you're good to go!
Good luck at your tryouts 🙂
