Question by Alexander the Great: Andrei Tarkovsky or Ingmar Bergman?
Both undisputedly two of the greatest film-makers ever.. After having seen almost all of both’s filmography, I have to say that I favor Bergman slightly (also my favorite director).

Tarkovsky. More with less, as it were.
It's interesting that both had a mutual respect for each other… especially since Bergman hated everyone else.

That's a difficult question. Both are equally great, I think.
My personal choice would be Bergman, he is my favorite director. I think I would choose Bergman over Tarkovsky not because I consider him to be better at creating films than Tarkosvky–indeed, one can argue Tarkovsky was more inventive and inspiring–I prefer Bergman (just very slightly) because his films have affected me greater on a personal level; maybe at this point in my life I can relate better to Bergman's earthly anxiety than to Tarkovsky's spirituality, perhaps this will change later.
Still, the film director who I adore most is Robert Bresson. Not as grand or prolific as the other two, but simply perfect in his technique, a master of editing. If I had to choose between Tarkovsky's 'Zerkalo,' Bergman's 'Cries and Whispers,' and Bresson's 'Au hasard Balthazar,' I don't think I could…
