Why? Seriously.
Why not the UK, Spain, Portugal, Germany etc why Russia? Russia is a corrupt former communist shlthole with the 5th highest murder rate in the world and the largest racist skinhead movement in the world. Lets not forget the Russian mafia and their corrupt government.
Anyways if you insist I guess you should be cautious it is a racist society as in racist attacks are common there you'll probably stick out there considering they're mostly pale Europeans there. But Black, South Asians and Mongols are easy targets.

If you want to avoid racism Russia is the last place you want to go, even non russian whites are discriminated there.

If you are a friendly person most Russians will be friendly towards you too. Many Russian are dark haired and tan complexioned too, so it's not like you will stand out so much. The only barrier could be language – do you speak Russian? I suggest you start learning it as soon as possible and practice as much as you can!

I lived in Moscow for 2 years and I can tell you straight up you WILL experience much racism and stupid behavior, and to answer your question if they ask you what your culture is just say you're from India. You'll thank me later.
