Question by 2ndSquad: How can I become an English Teacher to Russian speaking people?
I am considering moving to Russia where I hear English teachers are very much needed. They tell me that although students in this country (and countries where Russian is spoken) are already being taught English in their respective schools, I would be focusing more on helping them in everyday non-grammatical conversational English? To any English teachers out there that have done this, what is the best way to go about this? What strategies have you used? What books have helped you? Thanks

There are a lot of programs for native English speakers that want to teach English abroad. I taught this summer in China and might be leaving to teach in Japan in a few months with the JET program. Most of the programs that are decent and pay better require a bachelors degree and the study abroad office at a university would have information on programs for you. You can also search online, but be careful…some programs are much better than others. It will also help you get a better position if you get your TEFL certification.

For non-Russian people, learning the Russian language takes a lot of efforts and requires hard work. Many English-speaking people can learn German or French with no problem, but studying Russian is a difficult matter for them. Some people give up and confess that they will never be able to master Russian. However, I know that you only have to practice a lot of russian language. you can also watch some russian movies so that you could understand it much better.
