You get the visa at the Russian Consulate. There is one in New York (also one in Washington and another in San Francisco.) It is pretty straightforward, and you can start with the Web link below, which is a commercial service that takes care of the documents for you:

You can also get more info about the process here:

Have a great trip.

you need to show you will not be a financial burden to russia, your friend or their family can extend an invitation for you. go to the russian consulate for your visa, but go on line to know what you need.

To meet a girl? Don't forget she'll become homesick and grumpy if you expect her to marry and live in the US with no Russian friends or family and nobody to speak Russian with. She'll want at least a couple of months back home every year, same as if she made you live in Russia. Otherwise she'll fly home one day and not come back. If your home's bigger than hers in Russia, she'll soon start thinking "Da, but I slimmer and more beautiful than American woman here, many rich American men say they want me". If she's invited you for holiday sex, it's likely you're one of many guys she knows. they're no more stupid/innocent than American girls. Impress her mother first!
Expect many 'extra' costs and delays, Russia's notorious for scamming westerners. I know many Russian girls. Pizdets is an obscene version of "Oh f***", you might say it often while trying to get a Visa and hassle free meeting.
