Question by : How could Russia claim true superpower in 1949?
We’re studying the Cold War in A Level History, and I need some help with answering some questions. I was wondering whether anyone knew the answer to how Russia could claim true superpower in 1949? Thanks.

Here's a few reasons:
1. They controled ALL of eastern Europe at the time.
2. They implemented a blockade of Berlin to keep the US out
3. They supported the spread of Communism into Asia (China for example)
4. They were NOW a nuclear power thanks to US traitors.
5. In the years following 1949 they engaged in a massive nuclear arms race with the US

The Russians layed claim to winning the war in Europe they jumped up and down when they sent the first man in space they claimed all the major inventions in the world talked of how the poor in America die in the street they said Americans were fat stupid and lazy much like the Brits and euros of today
Most see them today for what they are a gangster state and supplier of prostitutes around the world
