It ended up with him getting ousted, and the Soviet Union dissolving.

    It was too little to late. The wheels were already in motion, and nothing Comrade Gorbachev did would stop them.

    I'm not sure it did, but after a few years, the reforms led to people deciding the Soviet Union's government was not what they wanted and the government had reached a breaking point, mostly due to money problems from their unpopular war in Afghanistan (sound familiar?) and other things. Ironically, the cry of the Communists had always been "The People" and it was the 'people' who brought it down.

    I see "Glasnost" as a good thing and a step in the right direction. I'm sure the result was not what Gorbachev had in mind, but that is what happened.

    They elected Boris Yeltsin which was as bad as Americans electing George Bush Jr.
