the usual way- armed conquest
The only difference between the Russian colonial empire and the others, is that the russian colonies were in one piece and therefore could pretend that they were “one nation”. The russians also acted differently- they did not educate the conquered people- just killed them. And it made no difference whether the rulers in russia were tsarist, communist or Putin-ist

Not so many people in Siberia – in the C17th Russian expansion was spearheaded by fur trappers travelling by river, and the portages from river to river..
But the fate of the native peoples is a bad story though mostly untold.
