The cold war was a economic standfront between the US and USSR. What triggered the cold war was the Hydrogen Bomb success of Russia ( which were the first people to actually tested the bomb ) which caused US to fall into a panic by testing their bombs on Pacific islands such as the Marshall islands which in case wiped out and radiated 5 islands on the pacific ( 3 being wiped from the ocean ). This put countries such as Korea, Vietnam and other Pacific areas into stress between the bomb test and the growth of communism and the traditional democracy that the American dream holds still today
basically it was a race to see who can make the top notch nuclear weapons until the International act was pass to limit the world’s nuclear testing and development which lead to the Soviet Union’s downfall
