Question by San Fran tourist: how difficult is Dostoevsky/Tolstoy to read in Russian?
I’m learning Russian. How much will I need to know before I can read his books in Russian with basic understanding of content (even if not appreciating it like a seasoned russian speaker might) ?
In terms of University semesters required? (for those who took russian in american univs and know the standard)
Or in other terms you might be able to explain this?

Not so hard as Nabokov (books that he wrote in his ‘russian days’).
Why don’t you just try to read couple non adapted pages to test how hard Dostoevsky is to you personally?!
