Question by I love the Soviet Union: How do modern Russians feel about Stalin?
I know that in Germany Hitler is widely hated by everyone and all Nazi imagery is banned there, but how do Russians today feel about Joseph Stalin? Is he hated like Hitler? Is he admired in some ways? Is the public opinion of him in Russia that of a hero who built up the country industrially or of a tyrant who murdered millions of people?

The educated Russians know what happened during Stalin’s rule. The others have more pressing matters than knowing about a person they knew nothing of a half century before they were born.

They love him.
Polls in Russia consistently show that if he were alive today and a candidate,he would win a Presidential election.

It's still controversial, but less today.
Even Ivan the Terrible is still debated today.

He is well received by modern day Russians (the ones that lived during his rule are mostly dead). There was a poll that held him favorably as a great leader.
I have a co-worker that came from Russia and he said he greatly admires Stalin.

I think he's the reason why Russia still exists as an independent country and why I live.
