Question by Amber.[:: How do you say this Russian word?
Okay, i just want to get it straight.
Pirozhki is how Wikipedia has it spelled.
But the “zh” part, and according to what letter it is in Russian, should be pronounced like the “s” in “pleasure”.
Other times I’ve seen it like “peroshki.
I’m not sure.
The Russian food, you know,
and I just want to know how to say it correctly.
and what about the “o”? How should I pronounce it?
Help please?
Thanks!(:

roshky= the ronunciation of RASHKY
The letter O must be read like A
ALL TOGHETHER IS
PIERASHKY
JJ says
Although in the singular, you would pronounce пирожок with the [zh] sound that you describe, in the plural, пирожки, because the letter ж is followed by an unvoiced consonant (k), the [zh] becomes like [sh].
The 'o' is somewhere between the 'o' of British English 'hot' and the vowel sound found in the word 'all'.

Darren P is bullshitting you. Both ways are actually right.They sound very very similar. I'm usually more inclined to say peroshki.
