Some information about Stalin may help you get started.
Premier of Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) from 1920s or 30s until mid-1950s. USSR was THE major Communist power in the world. (Many people refer to USSR as “Russia” but Russia was only the larger of the many republics within USSR.) Stalin entered into a non-aggression pact with Hitler, then went nuts when Hitler attacked USSR. During WWII, Stalin conferred several times with Churchill and Roosevelt, and at the end of the war, Germany and Austria were split between the allies. Because USSR troops overran Nazis in eastern Europe, Stalin was able to impose communist dictatorships in those countries, too. (E. Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Romania, Bulgaria) Stalin ordered the relocation and systematic killing of hundreds of thousands of USSR citizens suspected of not supporting his rule.

Romulus says
Joseph Stalin was the Russian communist dictator that took over Vladimir Lenin from the late 1920s to 1953 (his death). He's known for killing probably around 10 million people in Russia due to his lack of care (famine, shortages, etc.)
Although Stalin looked innocent, he truly wasn't. He was evil as he was powerful. However, he wasn't an Axis, although he did sign a pact with Hitler concerning Poland.
But when Hitler broke the pact and took over Poland, Stalin then decided to take action, however he wasn't completely with the Allies.
He is known as one of the Big Three, along with Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt, later substituted by Harry Truman in the Yalta Conference.
In the end, Stalin is a key factor in the development of the Cold War (the Nuclear weapons armsrace) and is the main face of the Communist party.
