Question by Meagen: How hard is it for an American to learn Russian when you are a young adult with no background in the language?
Obviously I won’t be able to fully pronounce some words correctly, as in hide my accent. I am moving to Krasnoyarsk for two months, but I will be traveling for a month to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, etc as well. I have no background in the Russian language, but I am willing to learn while I am there. Is it possible that I can speak conversational Russian after living there for three months? I will be using the Russian Rosetta stone in the months prior to my arrival. Any advice or things I should know about?

I can help you. Russian is my mother tongue alongside Croatian & Ukrainian. I also know 3 other languages excluding English.

You have to be ready to work hard, because it's really not so easy. But not impossible. My bf is Spanish and he has learnt Russian to communicate with my family. During those 3 months that we spent leaving in Moscow he had to watch TV and speak only in Russian, plus books, internet resources and other stuff.
Here is a nice website to practise Russian:

it's more interesting than most of the websites I've seen. Good luck!

you have no problem! If you work on Russian before going there, so that you're able to read and write, and most importantly, to talk to people straight away on your arrival [that's what i did] people will be happy to converse with you and you'll make rapid progress. People will ask where you're from, because the accent won't be 'local' but so what, that gives you something to chat about. Have a great time. You will CERTAINLY speak conversational Russian after 3 months, especially with the work you're planning to put in beforehand.
