How has Russia’s change from a planned economy (a command economy) to a more free market economy improved the Russian economy? To what extent have the changes resulted in more official corruption?

It has made some Russian “entrepreneurs” very wealthy, while the general population is continues to struggle. No “trickle down” economics over there.

Well – like a lot of other countries they unloaded a large segment of their population on us so that always helps. I think it is their gas and oil reserves that help their economy. They don't have liberals keeping them from drilling.
MIght be better to ask a Russian this.

that's hard to say yet. what has affected the Russian economy is simple, more income less spending. the past few years has seen Russia's economy rise steadily due to oil revenue. and, since they haven't been spending all their resources funding an untenable war in Afghanistan… .
