Catholics and Orthodox are similar to each other based upon the celebration of the Seven Sacraments of the Church, you have to also remember that the most of the Eastern Rites of the Catholic Church were once Eastern Orthodox, Oriental (Coptic) Orthodox, and Church of the East. What really divides the Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodox Church, and Church of the East from the Catholic Church is that they do not recognize the Bishop of Rome (Pope) as being the head of the Apostles (Church) here on earth they simply view him as being the head of the Holy See of Rome not of the entire Church.
What do the Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental (Coptic) Orthodox Church, and Church of the East have in common with Protestants not much at all besides the recognition of most Protestant denominations baptism. The thing is Protestants don’t understand this but these traditional Churches don’t believe in Sola Scriptura rather they all support that Jesus given His authority to the Apostles in which each one of these traditional Churches has an Apostolic succession. And they all believe that the Holy Eucharist is the true Body & Blood of Christ where as in Protestantism it’s only symbolic. And yes they all have the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance) where as Protestants reject the idea of confessing and reconciling your sins before the Church. And they believe that faith is justified by your good works which is the opposite of the Protestant faith justifies itself.

It differs from Catholicism in that it is not under the authority of the Pope. Rather, it is under the authority of various Patriarchs.
