Question by atarascina: How long is Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Overture?
I’m trying to download the mp3 for this, but there are so many variations in play time, that I’m not sure which one is right! Some are 18 min, while others 24 min. Does anyone know the official time that the piece is supposed to play?

They both can be right. Some conductors take music super fast. Some take it really slow. It all depends on their interpretation of the music. Find one that YOU like.

There is no 'right' or 'wrong' answer. Every performance is different. Relatively subtle variations in speed from one performance to another will effect the total playing time of a piece like this by up to two minutes. I have to say I have never encountered a performance of 24 minutes for this piece – it must have been uniformly slower than Tchaikovsky's tempo indications.
On average, a performance of this piece will last between 19 and 21 minutes.

Average performance time should be around 20 minutes, according to the performance notes on IMSLP.
