Question by Leigh M: How many bullets are in an AK-47 magazine?
Single shot…
Thank you everyone! I split a magazine with my friend at a firing range in China and she missed the target completely every time. All my shots were in the 9 and 10 targets but I only counted 11 holes. Maybe my friend used more than 15 trying to hit the target.

"single shot"
By that I am going to assume you mean semi-automatic, where a single bullet is fired with each trigger pull.
This is to distinguish it from fully automatic, where the gun fires as long as the trigger is pulled back, until it runs out of bullets or until the trigger is released.
Normally 'single shot' means just that, the gun holds only a single bullet.
The most common AK magazine is the curved 30 round variety. However, there are AK magazine that hold as few as 5 rounds, and there are ones that hold as many as 100 rounds. The biggest 'normal looking curved one' that works reliably is the 40 rounder.
Also, just to be fully correct, there are NO semi-auto AK-47s, all are full auto capable. However, there are many AK style semi-automatic being legally sold and safely used in this country
Oh yea and how many bullets are in the magazine is related to how many times you pulled the trigger since last time you loaded!

It depends on the magazine. The standard is 30.
If you are talking about one of those pump-action "CA Only" models, I believe they still will take a hi-cap magazine, since they are NOT a semi-auto rifle.

The standard AK47 magazine holds 30 rounds, it is a flat magazine with a curve in it, not straight, to allow the bullets to feed properly. Flat style after market magazines can be purchased in 20, 30, 40 and 50 rounders. I used the 75 and 100 round drum magazines last year in Iraq as an Instructor for the Iraqi Police. These were Russian made, 75 pretty common but the 100 a bit hard to get your hands on. These 2 styles are round in shape, called a "drum". Basically when yousee an AK47 on TV or in the news, it will have the common issued 30 round magazine with it, sometimes 2 taped together.
