How many foreigners live in Moscow now?

Question by Tom: How many foreigners live in Moscow?
Does anybody know? I’m particulary interested in how many English speaking foreigners live in Moscow and whether they are students or work full time or whether they are here being supported by their partners.

Thanks RussianT for the nice words! I will also agree with the answer from Kristaich because he's right in that there are a lot of folks from former Soviet republics, from Asia, from Europe and of course from America who live in Moscow. Moscow is a beautiful city of so many cultural influences.

As Kristaich said, it's hard to know how many live without proper passports/registration from the "near abroad" as Russians call it. Then of course there are Western Europeans and the rest of us who must have a passport and visa to enter. Check out this article which says that approximately 60,000 legal foreigners live in Moscow. http://migration.ucdavis.edu/mn/more.php?id=1032_…

One of the regular posters, top contributor Mendeleyev is an American journalist who lives in Moscow. He can probably provide you with a good insight to this question. Contact him or check out his journal: http://russianreport.wordpress.com/

Well it depends on what you define as foreign. In terms on people without a Russian passport its nowhere near as many as people with a Russian passport but who are born abroad etc.

There are quite a lot of English speaking foreigners living in Moscow.
The number varies considerably depending on the time of year.
Mostly they are part of the business community , or students,
I wouldn't like to put a figure on the numbers, but i have met quite a few british expats when visiting Moscow
