There are a few other factors as well. One is the vendor from which you buy. The second is perhaps the one that will be more specific to your area. When I bought my Dragnauv I had to send it to the local gun dealer and then he gave it to me. So it has to get filtered through some certified people first. Try www.keepshooting.com. The AK on there is around 4.5 hundred.
Edit: It may also be hard to get a full-auto one as they are illegal in some places. Also check with your local game warden to make sure you can even use it to hunt. (I doubt you can but it could be fun to take to the gun range)

To the morons who keep pointing out that an fully automatic weapon is illegal without tax stamps and licensing:
Duh! When someone asks about a hunting rifle, do you take the time to point out that it is illegal to use to snipe people from the top of the bell tower?

You're lookin at around 15,200$ .
…And I don't know if a pre 86 Maddi is going to be avalible or not. There are, however other AK47's avalible as NFA guns.
The Federal tax is 200.00.
…But the gun is gonna run at LEAST fifteen thousand.
You can check out ALL Federal and State regs, as well as outrageous machine gun prices here:

Ryan,
I have done this paper trail. First, you need to locate a Class 3 dealer near you – the local gun shop can give you the name and address. Once you meet the dealer – tell him exactly what you are looking for – he'll call back with the cost of those models on the market for sale. $ 12,000 to $ 16,000 would be the price range. Next step is you pay for the full auto rifle and it is shipped to the Class 3 dealer. Once it arrives at his place of business you fill out the NFA Form 4, get the finger print cards completed, add the photos, and take the completed Form 4 to your local police chief, sherriff, or state trooper office for signing. Once signed – you ship the documents to NFA in Atlanta – the government has 90 days to approve/disapprove it – they actually turn these around in 4-5 weeks.
Before you start all this – your first step – find a police chief, sheriff, or state trooper office that agrees to sign your Form 4. The Class 3 dealer is the person who knows if this is an easy or difficult thing to accomplish in your area. Most will not even consider signing your Form 4 unless you are a member of a local shooting club, have a large gun storage safe at home, and/or have distinguished yourself in some way, shape or fashion in the local shooting or civilian community. You don't have a right to own one of these – and the Form 4 must be signed by local law enforcement – so be sure you have all your ducks in a row when the time comes to ask.
Good luck.

Nearly all AK47 machine guns that are transferable guns were semi-autos that were converted to full auto here in the states. There are some Maadi semi autos that were converted but most conversions were done on chinese guns and some on Valmet guns. There are a few original AK's that were amnesty registered in 1968 but when they come up for sale they are usually over $ 30k. Converted AK's general run $ 15k to $ 20k. Then you have to pay the $ 200 transfer tax. No separate fee for the background check.
Imported machine guns have to have been imported and registered prior to 1968 to be transferable. That is why AK machine guns are all conversions except for the few amnesty registered guns.

before you can get an full auto, you need to jump through a bunch of legal hoops paperworkwise and get a $ 200 tax stamp.
after that, you must realize that there are a limited number of registerd machineguns, as the registry was closed in 1986, so only those AK47s brought in just before then are going to be legal. I suspect that no Egyptian guns made it in.
Because of the limited supply, there is a high demand for these guns, and they will cost in the thousands of dollars
I suggest you just buy a semi-auto only model

Sam , if you don't know what you are talkign about, don't answer.
You need to find a transferable one( $ 12,000- $ 20,000 +), then you need to a calss 3 dealer , (+$ 100-$ 200), then you need to pay to ship it to your class 3 dealer( $ 35-$ 50) then you need to pay the $ 200 transfer tax to the ATF.
Gunbroker has lisings of both class 3 dealers and full auto rifles., Before you look though realize you need a Pre-86 TRANSFERABLE Machine gun, An Pre 86 dealer sample or post 86 gun will still be for sale but cannot be legally bought without an 01FFL/SOT ( machine gun dealer liscence)

Transferable AKs start at about twelve thousand plus the twohundred dollar tax stamp for the transfer. There might be a few other small fees for fingerprinting and stuff but when you are dropping that much on a gun it should not be a big deal to you.

Fully Automatic = FELONY !!!!
Unless you have a Federal Firearms License……..
Stay with a Semi- Auto.
