Dear friend,
As far as I know there are many Chinese people in Vladivostok, but they all prefer staying together and support each other as much as possible.
Skinheads are everywhere, as sick people are also everywhere…. Your safety very much depends on you and your behavior. There are cases when some maniacs just attack, but it can happen to you absolutely everywhere including China.
I’d say: do not forget that you are a guest in Russia, so behave as a guest, not as a native; do not flirt with ladies, since they might be someone’s gfs or wives even and later angry bf/husband might be looking for you; do not steal someone’s business or clients, because no one will forgive that; do not get drunk then you will always be controlling the situation and etc.
Chinese culture and traditions are great, but you need to know and understand Russian culture and traditions to feel better there. If you plan to stay in Russia, then do not try to make Russia Chinese, because it’s not, but try to make yourself Russian since it’s your wish to come to Vladivostok and stay there.
So in fact, if you will suit yourself, then it will be safe enough for you anywhere. Do not be afraid of skinheads, better spend time on learning about Russian culture and at least some Russian words and phrases.
Good luck!
Thank you!

I also agree with Galadrie, stay with the other Chinese as much as possible, and act as a guest. I lived in Vladivostok for 1 year and I heard several times about skinheads killing a Chinese person, and the police did very little. I'm not trying to scare you, but Russia can be a dangerous place, if your not white.

I completely agree with Galadriel. Just don't act "Chinese", if you don't want to get beaten or killed. This may sound a little rude, but you'll thank us for the advice in the future. You'll see what it's like once you are there. Unfortunately, it's not only the skinheads that beat Chinese People in Vladivostok. Personally, I don't like most Chinese People in the entire Primorsky Krai. A lot of them are engaged in illegal logging and illegal trading of endangered species. One of my good friends is Chinese but he is an exception. I'm not racist or nationalist at all. My people is also the target of nationalist groups.

Study Russian Culture and language. Make friends with Russians and don't stay only with Chinese People, otherwise you will not be assimilated to local culture and you will not learn anything. I would not say that you are completely safe from Skinheads, because they are everywhere as she pointed out. They are mobile since they have feet and can walk :)) I have nothing against the Chinese, but they behave terribly when they are abroad, especially when they are in tour groups.

Don't worry, there are not that much Skinheads, and beatings are rare. There are more of them in Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod. Avoid looking for trouble by respecting the culture. The mistake of most Chinese Immigrants, not only in Russia, is that they stay among themselves, and don't try to adapt to the local population. It's exactly the same story in Paris, Berlin and other cities worldwide.
