just talk about the fact that Russia is really far up north

    Russian winter = DEATH
    for Hitler and Napoleon

plus, Russia and several other nations place a very large emphasis on owning part of the coast of the Black Sea, partially cuz it's a source of oil

Here's an example — the geography of Russia is a flat pine-tree convered area from the Urals to Kamchata. This type of territory is easily traversed by horseback. The mongol army consisted mostly of horse archers who were able to maneuver, coalesce, and attack quickly. After conquering China, they went from Mongolia to Poland in a few decades. There were no natural barriers to an invading army.

Talk about how the vast expanses of the Ukraine and western Russia were a deciding factor in Germany's stalled effort to conquer and defend the occupation of USSR territory in WWII.
