Converting an AK47 to full auto is easy but not legal. A fully automatic trigger control group parts are legal to own, when purchasing foreign build kits and even on dozens of US websites you can but the fully automatic components, and there is a handful of companies that even make drill jigs because you need to drill the 3rd-hole in the receiver, then notch the guide rail. Its legal to own the trigger group, legal to own the jig, but if you drill the hole and install the trigger components, you are in possession of an illegal machine gun and the ATF will be your new best friend. I have meet several people who have illegal converted their guns and they are careful about it, they never show them off to people and never take videos of them shooting it. Its just not the potential jail and fines because the ATF are assh*les and joke around about machine guns.

If you are a skilled machinist, have access to a full blown machine shop and have lots of experience as a gunsmith, it's not all that hard. If you don't you will be buying a new receiver. Of course, if you are a skilled machinist, have access to a full blown machine shop, have lots of experience as a gunsmith, you can build what ever you want.
From a legal standpoint, if you even start to make the changes, and get caught, you will ruin your life. A felony of this nature will cause you extensive grief even after you get out of prison. Do note, there are web sites that will give you step by step instructions on how to complete this process. A couple of these are run by homeland security and BATF. They track who comes to the site, and especially track who downloads info. Their friends at NSA can tell them who you are, even through any filter programs. This is part of the network used to suppress any terrorists in this country. The point is, if you go to one of these sites, it will start at least a quick look at you. They will then check you against the NICS system and see if you have made any purchases. If you have made a purchase, they will inform the field agent for you district. That agent will inspect the records of your dealer, and see if you have bought any guns related to the conversion. If they find that you have bought a gun of this type, you go on their watch list.
By the way, while the law requires that the records in the NICS system be destroyed in a timely fashion, do you really think that they let this stuff go?

What the fuck is this secret squirrel shit?
If those government stooges want to try something, I recommend they look at Bundy Ranch and Waco Texas Siege.

It is not particularly difficult if you are mechanically inclined.
Simple question, simple answer.

Check out "The Anarchist's Cookbook" and "Poor Man's James Bond" – How difficult in practice? I don't know, but the conversion schematics looked fairly simple.

From what I understand, it is very difficult. The semi auto's fire from a closed bolt while most all full autos fire from an open bolt. It is very difficult to get the timing right with a closed bolt firing system. If the firing pin drops before the bolt is closed, you have big problems. The most common thing that people do is make it slam fire. That means that you pull the trigger once, and it will fire until the mag is empty. Usually it is an honest accident, ie the gun wasn't assembled correctly after cleaning. Usually what happens is the firing pin doesn't retract, so everytime the bolt closes, it automatically fires and the process repeats with no way to make it stop until it runs dry. It is illegal, and at best would be stupid to try to accomplish. There are people who have been arrested for having a gun slam fire at a range. At worst, it is very dangerous. I would never want a gun that wouldn't quit firing. Lots of inexperienced people have it in their heads it is a very simple modification to convert a semi to full auto, but that is not true. The atf has outlawed nearly every semi automatic design that could be easily converted, (those that fire from an open bolt). Most people that attempt converting a semi auto either end up with a lengthy prison term or a gun that simply doesn't fire any more. Neither of which appeals to me. Regardless of what you hear, filing down the sear won't do it. It will just keep the trigger from resetting.

If you could get a Class III (i think) FFL you could just buy one that is already full auto. But, you probably have a snowball's chance in hell at getting one of those.
