IMO Sochi is not the best place for vacation –
at least I cannot find there a decent value for the money required.
Beaches are normally pebbles, overcrowded, street service often lousy,
lodgings overpriced. Therefore I prefer Egypt, Spain, Turkey etc.
Visit this link about Sochi (lodgings and what to do) – http://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g298536-Sochi_…
Have a nice trip!

Easy as 1-2-3, go online and search "Russian visa service", there are several all working out of a city that has a Russian Embassy (Seattle, New York, Washington D.C. etc.) the embassy costs will be the same for all. All you are really paying for is the service to hand deliver your documents to the embassy, pick them up, and send them back to you. All paperwork can be downloaded and you can print it up at home. These services even provide an invitation letter supplied by a partner Russian travel service.
Since you are really in no rush, take the 8-10 day option of getting your visa and documents back. You'll need a filled out application, a passport photo, and about $ 200, it's really a piece of cake compared to doing it yourself.
Have a good trip.

You firstly need an invite for your 30-day Tourist Visa. This company can provide you with one – http://www.waytorussia.net/Travel/VisaSupport.htm…
Then apply at your nearest Russian Consulate with the application form and photographs.
Once inside Russia, your hotel will be able to register your visa for a small fee. If you don't register it, you will have problems trying to leave the country.
