How to read War and Peace without constantly forgetting the characters?

Question by : How can I read War and Peace by Tolstoy without constantly forgetting the characters?
it’s such an interesting book, but it’s so hard to keep up.

make a list of the characters and who they are and keep it with you while you read so when a character comes up and you forget who they are you can look at the list.

    Buy a decent copy with a list of major characters and a brief note about who each of them is.

    My copy has a character list, a summary of each chapter (in case you need to refresh your memory), historical notes and general notes:

    I have read that book twice myself, and still have trouble differentiating between certain characters, so trust me that you are not alone! I was fortunate in that my copy had a very good character list in the end notes, but here is a link that may help you if your copy does not have something like that:
