How to split time between Riga, St Petersburg and Moscow?

Question by paul: How should I split my time between Riga, St Petersburg and Moscow?
In July I am flying to Riga, arriving late morning. Six days later I am am flying from Moscow in the late evening. All this is booked (and unchangeable). My initial plan is to spend two nights in Riga and, the following night take a train to St Petersburg. Stay one night in St Petersburg then take a night train to Moscow. One night in Moscow and then the flight out to Tallin (where it’s a pity I am not spending longer). This would give me three days in Riga (I might take an excursion depending on the weather), two in St Petersburg and two in Moscow. An alternative would be not to stay in Riga at all, see it in the afternoon, and then spend two nights (three days) in both St Petersburg and Moscow. This would actually be less hectic but I’m wondering about the relative merits of the three cities. Cost is also a factor.

Your schedule is contradictive.Cost wise.both Moscow and St.Petersburg are very expensive..on a par with London and Paris.Riga, the Latvian capital and Tallin in Estonia are much cheaper and more enjoyable. You would enjoy eastern russia more.Ekaterinburg is a two hour flight from Moscow and a nice place to be.

I would say that St. Petersburg and Moscow are more interesting than Riga or Tallinn. Spend more time in Petersburg, you will enjoy its beauty, museums and white nights when it is never dark 24 hours.
