They were fighting the Germans, but also fighting from within….with the Russian Revolution. They were never really involved, like all the other country’s, in a world war before. There was new military tactics (trench’s, tanks, new weapons, chemical warfare….etc…)
A similarity is the military and training of the troops that Russia had. They were a bit embarrassed…and honestly would never have been able to fend off the Germans alone. Like the Crimean War….an embarrassment for Russia….and the cause was the government system at the time with a Tsar government…. they were the last country of the civilized world to abolish serfdomism and impose a somewhat representative government.
