Both led the Soviet Union but Stalin was the more repressive of the two, Stalin killed all opposition and deported millions to labor camps, where they were starved and worked to death, average life expectancy in some of the camps was less than 2 years. Nikita Khrushchev denounced Stalin in the secret speeches in front of supreme soviet congress 1954 I think it was. Stalin (Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili ) was his real name. the time of Stalin was often called "the great terror" due the political repression, of about 1200 members of Communist party central committee in 1932 by 1938 only 132 were left alive and in power the rest were in labor camps or shot,after being tortured into a confession of some crime.
