They were treated like the lower class people they were. The communism state was just that. They were specific layers of social class, and the state didn’t allow you to move outside that class.
If you were a worker that is what you did. You worked seven days a week, and often if you were sick you still worked or punished.
Many of the young men joined the army to get a better life, but often died in battle.
The peasants worked for the state, and the state came first.
