How would you start to buy land in Russia?

Question by gohanmasterz: How would you start to buy land in Russia?
I have tried to find a real estate agent that knew something about obtaining land in Russia. I know that private property and that you would have to be a Russian citizen or something. This is a really long term plan so anything you can point me to would be amazing.

A real estate agent would be useless unless located in Russia. You don’t need to be a Russian citizen (the largest single landowner in Russia today is McDonalds Restaurants-Canada) but you do need to know the ins and outs.

First, property rights are very different. Sometimes you can buy the building but somebody else owns the land, or you own the land and someone else owns the building or you own both but don’t own the development rights or mineral rights. Again, you need an honest Russian real estate agent who knows what they’re doing.

In comparison to the USA, property is cheap outside of Moscow so good luck!

First. You don't need to be a Russian citizen to buy land in Russia
Second. Speaking Russian isn't necessary, but desirable. You can easily find a good realty where staff speaks English. Especially in Moscow. Don't know anything about other cities, but think it won't be much of a problem. At least in major Russian cities.

google this word and try to understand googles translations. don't forget to ask about taxes. i hear it is high on land. my flat is 450 sq feet and TAX is $ 10 a year. on 450 sq.feet of LAND it may be a different story:) and will vary, city to city. land is measured in (100 are) size hectares (like a double football field, 100×100 metres). and in ares, in russian sotki (pl) or a sotok. a 10×10 meter area 100 sq metres, about 1000 sq feet… a small house with a yard of perhaps 6 sotki is often advertised for sale. a potato field of half a hectare is a good sized production for an individual. roughly, but not quite 1 1/3 acres.
