A full-auto would be very hard to get. That is considered a Class-3 weapon and without the rifle already being registered, it would be illegal to own.
That being said, you would be better served with a semi-auto hand gun, locked away in a safe and Ready to be used. A Rifle would be more of a, pardon the expression, Over-kill for your need. Now a Shotgun would be a better home defense weapon. Even if you miss the target, and when confronted with a break-in, you will be stressed, you can scare or 'wing' the intruder.
zchris87v says
Well duh, the call it "squirrel's round" because it was invented by a squirrel!
I'd say don't stop at the full-auto AK for home defense. Upgrade to a Browning M2. Or heck, just skip all of that and buy yourself an RPG. You'll be sure to stop the bad guy from breaking into your house…
…because there won't be any house left to break into.
T_hunter234 says
well, an ak47 generally shoots a .308 type bullet, which is a deer rifle, so yes it will kill a guy, but when the cops show up and get the gun as evidence, you might get off murder by self defense, but you will go to jail for owning a fully automatic weapon (its illegal) but yes it will stop the guy
nick says
Yeah, you stop the bad guys, your neighbors and anyone who happens to be on the same end of the house as the alleged bad guy. The fully auto will throw your aim all over the place with the amount of recoil coming with an AK. OVERKILL, not to mention dangerous, as i said, you're going to bring the bad guy down, probably shoot through your house and into your neighbors. So unless you and your neighbors have some sort of feud, go with a 12 gauge.
Glock Doctor says
Absolutely!
(Don't forget the grenade launcher attachment, too. Burglars hate grenade launchers; and, fortuitously, you don't have to be all that great a shot in order to hit one of them with that first, all important, high explosive round!)

This has got to be the dumbest question and set of answers I have ever seen.

Push the selector lever all the way down, would be a much better choice! You must have some mighty big squirrels where you live too!

ak's now days are more for collectors and gun enthusiasts. there are way better tactical rifles on the market that will soot your needs for a better price. for indoor or close range situations i like the carbines (my favorite caliber is the .40 s&w. very good stopping power) they are light, accurate, and dependable
oh and AK's are 100% legal to own. they are not full-auto rifles. they are semi-auto.
Aaron says
You are a moron. In the United States unless you have clearance from the government and a permit you cannot and i repeat cannot have any automatic weapons. If you want a defense weapon get a pump shotgun. The racking of the shotgun's pump can be universally recognized as kiss your ass goodbye. And sometimes finding the 7.62x39mmR can be a bit hard to find. Shotgun rounds are easy to find.
Oh and one more thing, AKs and SKS sometimes will jam with the hollow point rounds so your better off getting full metal jackets.
@Cody S, Only civilian AKs are legal to own which are semi-automatics. Unless one has clearance by the government and I dont know which agency it is, and have a special permit you cannot own a full automatic weapon of any type even if it is a burst too. Back in the 1980s for RoboCop they had to get government clearance to use the Beretta M93r which is a burst pistol.
Fatefinger says
Two things. First full autos are highly regulated and expensive. Second a centerfire rifle caliber is the WORST home defense option you can use. You miss and your going to go out a wall or 3 and go into the next house and maybe the one after that.
Two options. Handgun or shotgun and shotgun you wan't to use #4 shot as 00 has overpenetration issues too.
Crashn87 says
It may be a good choice if you live in Mogadishu…..
Justin Lucas says
wow … i believe any gun will more than likely get the job done… an ak however being a little extreme.. unless many "bad guys" need to be stopped.
I personally prefer my shotguns with incendiary rounds… not useful inside but the lights… ahh xD
Luck of the draw says
(sighs) Nope! what you got to do is get a smith and Wesson 500 or a desert Eagle in 50A.E. and just bump fire,(it's more accurate that way) at the indvidual breaking into your home. that should take care of them.
Anthony K. says
Yeah, if you're a criminal who gets full-auto weapons and can find hollow point ammo.
mike litoris says
That'll definitely stop whoevers comin into your house.. Just one shot in the right spot could kill him instantly, but you have FULL auto with hollow point. I'd say that's good enough.
What I have for home defense is a beretta 9mm, a 12 gauge and an AK-22 semi.
Little Miss Australi says
Ahhhhhh, nope, that oughta do it.
