Question by LD: Is Finland the true successor state to the Russian Empire?
From 1809-1917, Finland was an autonomous grand duchy of the imperial russian empire. During the Russian civil war (1918-1922), much of the White Army (Pro- Monarchists) was located in the newly independent Finland whereas the most of the Red Army (Bolsheviks) were located in the newly created RSFSR. After the Russian Civil War, much of the white army remained in Finland & Poland while most either disbanded or were Incorporated into the Soviet Army.

One might make that argument, but the bottom line is, Russia is Russia and Finland is not. THeir paths have separated.
