One of the greatest. If the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany had to come to an end, which leader would you rather have, and which process would you choose for the ending?

There ALWAYS are people willing to do anything for the top job. No matter what. They fought too long and gave up too much to get there. Gorbachev was unlucky to get the job when the only work left was to turn off the light.
He did that very well. With minimal loss of life, and as little pain as possible. Others might have lashed out with the KGB and the Red Army to save what was (im)possible.

Gorbachev was an effective leader of the USSR under the system that existed at the time. He was certainly an improvement over Stalin who is purported to have killed 12 million people.
