There are many (relatively) easy changes that one can make to achieve life-long weight loss (if actually done.) Remember the best weight loss is slow weight loss. So here are some… let's call them… "lifestyle changes" for overall health improvement.
1. Drink more water
Don't worry about the temperature (… yes colder water will "burn" slightly more calories, but they are negligible and there are more important things to focus on then checking to see if your water has a fever)
2. Easy ways to increase exercise
Park your car farther away than your destination
Get off the bus one or two stops prior to your destination
Take the stairs instead of the escalator/elevator
Use the "hand carriages" at the grocery store instead of the rolling ones or leave your carriage at the end of the aisle and carry everything back
Make exercise a social event (take a walk, golf, tennis, etc.)
3. Don't live the "all or nothing" lifestyle
Most diet downfalls come from feeling as though you have failed, and then tilting the refrigerator in the direction of your mouth… don't let it get there. If you eat a cookie, or two, … or three, say to yourself "you know what?! that sucks that I just ate that [when I wasn't hungry/felt sad/was bored] but I am going to let that go and exercise a little bit more tonight/have fruit for dessert instead of the chocolate I let myself have/etc. and do better next time. In the long stretch of things, that cookie you ate isn't going to make a whole heck of a difference, but the things you do in response to that cookie will. (The vodka you mentioned is where this applies)
4. Exercise, but realize what exercise is [just… moving]
Many people feel as though their bodies are calculators and memory banks, but in actual fact the human body is something of a mystery. Our stomachs do not calculate the number of calories we eat and then slap on some fat when we go over that "magic number" and much the same, our bodies do not only burn calories when we go to the gym and listen to the awful 80's music, run on a treadmill/elliptical/StairMaster, and wear spandex pants. Our bodies are always working, and we can "exercise" without all of the aforementioned mess. Exercise can be fun! Go swimming, play tennis or golf, take lassie/rover/or Paris' Teacup for a walk. Don't make yourself hate exercise, because as humans we will never do something we hate for long.

Depends what you mix it with. I drink it with water and a squeeze of lime, tasty and less sugars than pop. It is also great to drink if you get kick ass hangovers, its all about sugar content. Don't be swayed by candy that has 99% fat free, sugar converts if the energy is not used. The important thing is not to starve yourself. Any radical changes in your diet will lead to ultimate failure, small changes, baby steps, and dont forget to treat yourself every now and again!

Yeah my friend was a big drinker and she still is but since she's on a diet she drinks Bacardi Diet instead of Vodka

Seek support and help. It's very difficult to conquer two addictions at the same time. Stop the Vodka (or any alcohol) first. Then we can gradually add healthy eating, exercising and lifestyles.
