I'm ethnically Ukraine (bit Tatar&Greek too) and I and my whole family love Russians, we are one and the same. The story starts with Stalin who's responsible for many current problems, he gave the Crimea to Ukraine we were one big USSR after all. So its quite possible that Russia would annex the Crimea, (not openly they will find an other way). But don't worry about the war, I have many friend and relatives who are high ranked in Ukraine military, they say they would fight for Russia against Yushenko (and/or NATO), so if US really was democratic they would say 95% of Crimean inhabitants want to be part of Russia, go ahead. Fact: US is not democratic, like try getting Ukraine in NATO while 70% of Ukrainians don't want.

If Ukraine loves the in-bred thugs to the north and east so much, why did even the Donbas vote overwhelmingly to break off from russia?

The little red radishes will make a move on Crimea, but it will be a political move. Trying to use the red army would be far too bloody for them — read carefully the analyses on how their forces were used on defenseless Georgia, and you'll see what an awful mess their military is.

And if Ukraine is serious, they'll hire some Japanese tourists to stand around. The russian army lives in mortal fear of the Japanese.

Russian – Ukrainian war will not be. There is nobody to militate in Ukraine. More than half of population – Russians. The half of Ukrainians loves Russia and hates the artificially created country and artificial Ukrainian language (really – South-Russian dialect, with the Polish, German, Romanian and Hungarian borrowings). The government of Ukraine will be purchased for 2 railway carriage of pig fat. The western Ukrainian nationalists can take away their stinking Lvov and than present it for Poland.
Ukrainians drank away and cut in a scrap-metal their part of the former Black Sea fleet of the USSR. They sold the last soviet tanks to Africa. You can give them yet a new modern weapon – in the next day this weapon will be sold to Georgia, Iran, North Korea, Guatemala. In future war ukrainian nationalists can militate only by smoking tubes and empty vodka bottles.
Ukrainians steal your oil and gas and wish that you all froze to death this winter. Then all empty Europe will belong to western Ukrainians.

Its a definite possibility. Crimea is prime real estate and about 70% of Crimeans are ethnic Russans and most would vote to become part of Russia if they could. I think Putin is just looking for an excuse to take over Crimea.

The biggest factor in a Russo-Ukraine war would be if Ukraine can join the European Union and/or NATO before it happens. If they do the other countries will be bound by treaty to come to their aid. If not, they will probably be left to wither on the vine.

Ukraine would regret destroying their nukes when they did. If they still had them, that could very well be the deciding factor if Russia does decide to take action.

Like other nations subjugated by Russia, Russia performed ethnic-cleansing on Ukraine by moving Russians into these nations in an effort to dilute the native populations. Ukraine east of the Dnepr has a majority of ethnic Russians. Ethnic Ukrainians do NOT love Russia
Hopefully, Nato will defend Ukraine as though it were a member…the USA certainly will
