Is it possible to extend a visa within Russia?

Question by Irish: Is it possible to extend a visa within Russia?
I’m Irish and my wife is Russian (also holds Irish citizenship) and we’re planning to live in Russia for 12 months from next July/August. Can I travel on a tourist visa to Russia and then just renew it when I’m there? I’d be returning to Ireland every four weeks for 2 or 3 days, so I’d need a multiple re-entry visa. Thanks.
We’d be renting an apartment in Russia for 12 months.
Lol…..how much of a “tip”?

If you wish to live in Russia visit with a Business Visa for 90 days, then apply for Temporary Residence. It's the easiest way to do it.

If you try to bribe your way to a Visa extension you just case more problems for yourself. I know a Brit that did such a thing and he ended up paying twice the price. Also, if you are really planning on staying in Russia you will need to get a work permit and with temp. residence you can work there as a citizen ( almost like a citizen ).

Also, your wife would be able to rest easier at night knowing you were on the up and up!

    Poka!

You can not extend any visa in Russia. You could try and bribe an official as suggested by other people but I'm sure they would just laugh in your face, and it could cause you more problems. Why not just apply for a multitrip business visa which would last you the whole year? You don't technically have to be doing business in Russia and it is easy to get an invitation from an official agency online. Call the new agency that deal with all Russian visas and they will give you all the information you need.

Just be careful on this one fella
Yes it is quite possible to do a deal with the voryi v zakone and there assosciates to get your visa sorted.
    The problem is
When you apply again for another visa to stay over there, you run into problems with there consulate in the UK.
Get a multiple entry visa ( enough for 90 days ) and plan your time accordingly
or look at alternatives such as some kind of longer stay visa.( which is certainly obtainable for Ukraine )

First answer is correct. In case you have not figured it out, you need to pay a little "tip" to make this happen.

Edit- OK I should have been more specific. You will end up paying for a business visa while you are there and get to stay for your 12 months. You can pay for one before you go too, like the guy below me said.
