Yes Russia is a superpower. How can people say no. Can America dare to attack Russia the same way they attacked Iraq or Yugoslavia? No. They still have clout in international politics and in fact increasing day by day. They are military superpower, they are scientific superpower (one quarter of scientific literature is still published in the Russian language). This is the same country which launched the first artificial satellite. Even to this date NASA takes inspiration from them. And recently agreement between Obama and Medvedev has once again proved that Russia is a country which can’t be ignored.
In fact there are a very few countries/groups in the world which have clout to challenge the US in near or far future and one of them is Russia while others being China and EU. (India is not on the radar. They can’t even challenge Pakistan).

Answer by Blame Obama
no but they have a huge military and have alot of oil

Answer by El Supremo
They must be, our beloved anointed one just cut the balls off our military for them.

Answer by Agnostic
Militarily yes.

Depends on how you describe “superpower”. Although they like to portray themselves as such, their power hasn’t come close to matching that of the United States since the 1960s.

They are one of the few nations which possesses nuclear weapons, however, they are cold war era warheads and are all short range. Basically the weapons they shipped to Cuba following the Bay of Pigs fiasco is what they have now.

They are one of the more powerful nations in the world, but I’d say the power of our military easily has them beat 10 to 1. Again, it depends entirely on your definition of “superpower.”

Most European nations would probably say yes, the US, not so much.

Answer by 63vette
While they are still a very strong power militarily, they have lost some of the edge as a superpower. They are, however, on their way back to becoming one.

Answer by Sandoro
They have a huge stockpile of nuclear warheads. They are one of the most oil rich countries on earth, and they have a powerful military.

So, yes, I would say they are a superpower. Not as powerful as the United States, but still a nation to be reckoned with.

Don’t let them fool you like they are doing Obama. I would never turn my back on them.

Well, what makes a super power?
economy, military, resources, geography and finally politics.

Russia now has military, geography, and resources…. so it’s fair to still be considered as a superpower, right now it’s not doing so well, but can be back again if they got rid of corruption, re-united again

no, a superpower is dominent economically, militarily, politcally, Cultural and russia isn’t and arguably neither is the USA anymore. The EU is as powerful as the US is economically and politically.

It could still wipe out the Earth so yes. There are many superpowers in fact. India, France, China and Pakistan also have the means to destroy the world as well as others that don’t tell us they have that ability.

A country like Japan is a huge economic power, but you cannot use economic power to wipe out your enemy and turn his country into an irradiated heap of glass that cannot be inhabited ever again. So it is not a super power.

As far as some are saying about being on par with the US. Well I’d agree in the conventional sense, but in reality, nuclear warheads make up for a lot of slack in other areas. The threat of nuclear war is enough in itself to keep anyone from attacking Russia no matter if they have a larger Navy or more ground or air forces. You could say, well without nukes maybe Britain or China or India or many countries could take Russia. But it’s all moot because they have nukes.
