I’ve been planning a short film that wil be set in Russia. While it will be shot in English, some dialogue will be in Russian. Is Russian a difficult language to speak for English tongues?

Russian is a difficult language to learn for foreigners. It has vey difficult grammar, VERY much more difficult than english. Plus pronanciation of the words can be complicated since there are no similar sounds in english so most english speakers have troubles with that too. But everything is possible. I have lots of american friend who can freely speak russian. so)

Im not a genius, not by a long shot. Last week I started learning the Russian language.. so far it hasn’t been more easy than hard. Although I’m learning at a faster pace than I anticipated, this language isnt somehting to fucked around with. I know there is a big gap between being able to speak Russian and to know Russian. Hopefully by 2013 I will be able to say the latter.

Ps. Russian men are damningly sexy, just saying ;]

Hardest thing about it is phonetics. Sentence structure, while somewhat different from English, still follows the basic Subject-Verb-Object pattern.

It’s more difficult than German, but easier than Arabic.
Russian was my first language but even still today I am confused about the grammar of the “hard signs” “soft signs” and things such as that.

It’s quite difficult but not impossible.

At first, many russian words will sound impossible to say, but after you get some practice they become very easy. there are many sounds in Russian that are awkward for english speakers. You should be able to pronounce any russian word correctly after saying it a few times.
